First Dates: 5 Things To Do Near Denver

First dates can be awkward, there’s no shame in admitting it. Two people show up to a date with expectations, pre-conceived opinions, and plenty of insecurities. If you’re tired of the same old coffee date- Here are five first-date ideas for singles in Denver and a few tips along the way.

1. Video Chat First Date

The idea of the first date has changed due to that nasty bitch named Covid-19. Many daters choose to do a video chat for a first meeting. We’re all for that idea since it will save you time and gas money. Covid-safe and easy. Don’t forget to make eye contact through your computer’s camera lens. If you’re looking for meaningful content, check out The New York Times list of 36 questions!

If video isn’t your thing, pretend it’s 1999 and ask them for a good ol’ fashioned phone call date.

2. Brewery First Date

We usually recommend a first date be a low investment situation. According to dating expert, Matthew Hussey, you shouldn’t even call it a date, but refer to it as a meet-up. For the price of one beer, you’ll get a feel for ‘in person’ chemistry, pheromones, and social skills. Our favorite first date brewery in the Denver area is Westfax Brewing. They have great $3 beer specials on Tuesdays! Bring a mask and enjoy a cold beer. Don’t forget to take a selfie in front of Casa Bonita.

If you’re not a beer drinker, coffee shops or tea houses are also an easy swap to make. If there’s zero connection, 20 mins will go by quickly!

3. Dog Park Walk First Date

Sometimes it’s best to choose a first date location that doesn’t force immediate face-to-face interaction. If you’re more comfortable enjoying eye contact after a little bit of ‘getting to know you’ time, consider a dog park walk. Denver is very dog-friendly. Even if you don’t have a dog, the off-leash dog parks mean you’ll get to pet lots of cute puppers anyway. Our fave is Cherry Creek State Park, but if you’re not into the idea of purchasing a day pass, check out some of Denver’s free off-leash parks-here.

Bonus Tip: Challenge your date to a contest. Whoever comes up with the best dog name- full, middle and last name- gets to pick the next date location.

4. First Date Hike

Alright, we’re in Colorado, everyone wants to hike. It’s free and you at least get some good exercise, even if you’re not interested in a second date. Be sure to choose a high traffic hike so you’re not putting yourself in danger. Use the AllTrails App! Throw a couple of beers in a backpack with an ice pack. If you’d like a short and open hike where you’ll feel safe, check out Green Mountain and Hayden Trail Loop.

Wear Sunscreen and hydrate! Did you know coconut water provides electrolytes? I just learned

This date will definitely be memorable and will show how outgoing and creative your date can be. If you’re smart and go on a weekday, tickets are $25 each. Be sure to wear stretchy pants if you’re going to attempt acrobatic poses. Uff da.
